Jesus Alonso-Zarate is the Deputy Director of European Commission Research and Innovation Policies and Strategies at i2CAT Foundation, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. i2CAT Foundation is a research and innovation center focused on digital technologies, embracing connectivity, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced media, new space economy, and also looking into the societal impact of technology.
Before, he had been for 16 years with the CTTC (Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya), where he was Manager of the Communication Technologies Division and Head of the Machine-to-Machine Communications Department.
In October 2019, Jesus was awarded by the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering for his contributions to the field of engineering with innovation potential (“Agustín de Betancourt y Molina” Prize). Also since October 2019, he has been the Chairman of the 5G Automotive Working Group of the 5G Public-Private Partnership (PPP); a 1,4 billion Euro joint initiative driven by the European ICT industry and the European Commission to lead the development of 5G technologies.
